Insurance and Finance Companies will periodically require you to survey  your vessel before they will insure/reinsure or finance it. These surveys concentrate on assessing the condition of the vessel and usually its market value.

The underwiters will want to be assured of the seaworthy condition of the boat and level of gear, its condition and any factor that might contribute to it suffering a loss.
